Makayla Dagenais

Makayla is an Honours Bachelor of Science student majoring in Psychology at the University of Ottawa. Passionate about neuroscience and mental health, she has gained valuable research experience through her role as a volunteer in the CRANILab at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. Makayla is also an active volunteer at the Clinical EEG and Neuroimaging Lab, where she contributes to the Contrave study, investigating the effects of obesity medication on brain structures.

In addition to her research work, Makayla serves as Vice President of PennyDrops at the University of Ottawa. PennyDrops is a student-run organization that equips youth with the knowledge and confidence to make informed financial decisions through engaging workshops and mentorship programs. She is also a dedicated volunteer for UNICEF uOttawa, where she helps raise awareness and funds to support the organization’s mission of providing lifesaving assistance to children worldwide, including access to education, healthcare, and clean water.

Her background includes analytical work in cognitive neuroscience, which has led to co-authorship on a manuscript with Dr. Alison Flynn. Additionally, she has hands-on experience conducting brain imaging research on adolescent concussions. Dedicated to making a difference, Makayla is committed to using her knowledge and skills to advance mental health research and improve quality of life for individuals affected by psychological and neurological conditions.

In her free time, Makayla enjoys playing soccer for Footy Sevens, attending Pilates and yoga classes, and hitting the slopes on her snowboard during the weekends.
